Pakistan Air Force Showcases JF-17 Thunder Block-III at Prestigious UK Airshow

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD – A contingent of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), featuring its cutting-edge JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter jets and a specially decorated C-130 Hercules transport aircraft, has arrived at the Royal Air Force Base Fairford in the United Kingdom to participate in the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) 2025, one of the world’s premier military airshows, the military said on Thursday.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said PAF’s participation underscores its commitment to demonstrating professional excellence, operational readiness, and the growing capabilities of Pakistan’s indigenous aviation industry on the global stage.

Highlighting the strategic depth of the deployment, the JF-17 Block-III fighters conducted successful mid-air refuelling operations en route to the UK with support from a PAF IL-78 aerial refuelling tanker. The complex mission showcased the PAF’s long-range operational reach and the precision and skill of its air and ground crews.

The JF-17 Thunder Block-III is a 4.5-generation multirole fighter equipped with an advanced AESA radar and long-range Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missiles. Designed for diverse combat missions, the aircraft represents a leap in Pakistan’s airpower, enhancing deterrence and national security.

The aircraft’s arrival has drawn keen interest from international defence observers and aviation enthusiasts, especially in the backdrop of recent tensions between Pakistan and India. The JF-17 Block-III’s combat-proven track record and technological upgrades make it a standout attraction at this year’s airshow.

Adding a visual flair to the event, the PAF’s C-130 Hercules has been painted in a special livery inspired by RIAT 2025’s theme, “Eyes in the Skies.” The design reflects modern air forces’ emphasis on vigilance, situational awareness, and cutting-edge aerial surveillance technologies.

According to the ISPR, PAF’s participation at RIAT is aimed at fostering international cooperation, sharing operational experiences, and reinforcing its image as a progressive, technologically advanced force contributing to global peace and stability.
