PM Shehbaz Meets Iranian President Pezeshkian on Sidelines of ECO Summit

KHANKENDI, Azerbaijan – Pakistan Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit on Friday.

During the meeting, both leaders reviewed the current state of Pakistan-Iran relations and expressed satisfaction over the progress made since their last engagement. They reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation across various sectors, according to official statement, issued from PM office in Islamabad.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the evolving regional situation, particularly in light of Israel’s recent aggression against Iran. Prime Minister Shehbaz appreciated President Pezeshkian’s leadership and commended Iran’s decision to pursue a ceasefire to avoid further escalation.

Reiterating Pakistan’s firm solidarity with the people and government of Iran, Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to working with Tehran to promote regional peace through dialogue and diplomacy.

President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its consistent diplomatic support, including at international forums, and acknowledged Islamabad’s key role in de-escalating recent tensions.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also conveyed warm greetings and best wishes for His Eminence, the Supreme Leader of Iran, through President Pezeshkian.
