13 Pakistani Soldiers Martyred in Suicide Attack in North Waziristan, 14 Terrorists Killed in Retaliation: ISPR

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - At least 13 Pakistani soldiers were martyred in a suicide attack targeting a security forces convoy in the Mir Ali area of North Waziristan, near the Afghan border, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.

According to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the attack was "planned and orchestrated by the terrorist state of India" and executed by its proxy group "Fitna al Khwarij."

A vehicle-borne suicide bomber attempted to hit the convoy but was intercepted by the lead security group, thwarting the primary attack. However, in a desperate act, an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into one of the vehicles, resulting in a deadly blast.

The military identified all 13 soldiers who embraced martyrdom, including senior officers and young soldiers from across the country, hailing from districts such as Karak, Naseerabad, Buner, Lower Dir, Mardan, Abbottabad, and others. The ages of the martyrs ranged from 20 to 45 years.

In addition to the military casualties, three civilians—including two children and a woman—were seriously injured in the attack.

Following the bombing, a clearance operation was launched in the area. ISPR confirmed that 14 terrorists were killed in an intense exchange of fire during the follow-up operations. The military vowed that sanitization efforts in the region would continue and the perpetrators of what it described as a “heinous and cowardly” act would be brought to justice.

“The security forces of Pakistan, in step with the nation, remain steadfast in their resolve to eradicate Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country,” the statement read. “Such sacrifices of our brave soldiers and innocent civilians further reinforce our unwavering commitment to safeguarding our nation at all costs.”

North Waziristan has witnessed a resurgence in militant activity in recent months, and Pakistani authorities have repeatedly blamed external actors for supporting insurgent violence inside the country.
