Pakistan says forces destroy two explosive-laden vehicles, kill four militants in Balochistan

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan's military said on Thursday that security forces destroyed two explosive-laden vehicles and killed four suspected militants during an intelligence-based operation in the southwestern province of Balochistan.

According to the military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was carried out in Khuzdar district after intelligence reports indicated the presence of militants. Troops intercepted the movement of two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs) and destroyed both vehicles before they could be used.

The military said four militants operating the vehicles were also killed during the operation. ISPR described the group as "Fitna al Hindustan," a term it uses for militant groups it alleges are backed by India.

The military said follow-up clearance operations were underway to search for any remaining suspects in the area.

The latest operation comes amid an intensified counterterrorism campaign across Pakistan. Over the past 48 hours, 51 militants have been killed in security operations and clashes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, according to military and police statements.

During the same period, nine police officers were martyred and dozens more injured after militants launched an assault on a police checkpoint in Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security forces said at least 15 attackers were killed in the ensuing battle.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in militant violence in its western provinces in recent years, with police and security forces frequently targeted in attacks.
