At Least 5 Killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Monsoon Rains Devastate Pakistan

By The South Asia Times

PESHAWAR – At least five people were killed and two others injured in separate rain-related incidents in Malakand, Buner, and Mansehra districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as heavy monsoon rains and flash floods continue to wreak havoc across the province, officials confirmed on Sunday.

The deaths occurred as roofs collapsed, landslides struck homes, and floodwaters swept through low-lying areas. Local rescue teams, along with the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), are actively involved in relief and rescue efforts.

Since June 26, torrential rains and sudden floods have claimed at least 72 lives across Pakistan, with hundreds displaced and dozens injured in various parts of the country, particularly in Punjab, KP, and Balochistan.

Authorities have warned of continued heavy rainfall in the coming days and urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain on high alert. The federal and provincial governments have mobilized emergency response teams and are working to provide relief to affected communities.

The disaster underscores the increasing frequency and severity of weather-related events in Pakistan, a country ranked among the most climate-vulnerable in the world.
