Pakistan rejects CBS News report on Iranian Aircraft as 'misleading and sensationalized'

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan on Tuesday categorically rejected a CBS News report regarding the presence of Iranian aircraft at Nur Khan Airbase, describing the story as "misleading and sensationalized" and accusing the U.S. outlet of attempting to undermine regional stability.

In an official response, Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified that the aircraft in question arrived during the ceasefire period as part of logistical arrangements for the Islamabad Talks, a series of discussions between Iran and the United States aimed at de-escalating tensions.

The US media outlet CBS News had reported on the presence of Iranian aircraft at a Pakistani airbase, with the report suggesting possible military contingency arrangements, according to Pakistan's foreign ministry.

The ministry rejected such assertions as "speculative, misleading, and entirely detached from the factual context."

According to the Foreign Office statement, a number of aircraft from both Iran and the United States arrived in Pakistan following the ceasefire and during the initial round of the Islamabad Talks. These planes were used to facilitate the movement of diplomatic personnel, security teams, and administrative staff associated with the talks process.

"Some aircraft and support personnel remained temporarily in Pakistan in anticipation of subsequent rounds of engagement," the ministry said.

Although formal negotiations have not yet resumed, the ministry noted that senior-level diplomatic exchanges have continued. In this context, visits by the Iranian Foreign Minister to Islamabad were facilitated through the existing logistical and administrative arrangements.

"The Iranian aircraft currently parked in Pakistan arrived during the ceasefire period and bear no linkage whatsoever to any military contingency or preservation arrangement," the statement emphasized.

The Foreign Office reiterated Pakistan's position as an impartial, constructive, and responsible facilitator in support of dialogue and de-escalation between Iran and the United States.

"Pakistan has extended routine logistical and administrative support where required, while maintaining full transparency and regular communication with all relevant parties," the statement said.

The ministry added that such speculative narratives about the Iranian aircraft appear aimed at undermining ongoing efforts for regional stability and peace.

Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting all sincere efforts aimed at promoting dialogue, reducing tensions, and advancing regional and global peace, stability, and security.
