ISLAMABAD -  Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held separate telephone conversations with the foreign ministers of the United Kingdom and Bahrain on Sunday, with both countries commending Islamabad's role in facilitating the recently signed "Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)" between the United States and Iran.

According to Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper reiterated Britain's appreciation for Pakistan's sustained efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, which culminated in the signing of the Islamabad MoU between Washington and Tehran. The agreement was mediated by Pakistan following weeks of regional tensions.

Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to promoting dialogue, diplomacy and constructive engagement as the preferred means of resolving disputes. The two ministers also agreed to remain in close contact on regional developments.

In a separate call, Bahrain's Foreign Minister, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, discussed the evolving regional situation following the signing of the Islamabad MoU and congratulated Pakistan on its diplomatic efforts.

According to the Foreign Ministry, Al Zayani praised Pakistan's constructive role in facilitating the understanding and expressed hope that the agreement would contribute to lasting peace and stability in the region.

The Bahraini foreign minister also indicated that he plans to visit Pakistan in the near future to personally thank Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts in helping secure the ceasefire and the subsequent agreement.

Dar thanked his Bahraini counterpart for his remarks and reiterated Pakistan's resolve to continue promoting dialogue and diplomacy in support of regional and international peace and stability.

Pakistan has positioned the Islamabad MoU as a major diplomatic achievement, saying its mediation helped facilitate the understanding between the United States and Iran after heightened tensions in the region.
