Pakistan condemns Houthi attack, orders repatriation of three nationals killed in Red Sea

ISLAMABAD - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has strongly condemned the Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Red Sea that killed three Pakistani nationals and injured another.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dar expressed deep concern over the "unfortunate incident," extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families . He stated that Pakistan "strongly condemns the Houthi attack on a non-combatant commercial vessel," emphasizing that such attacks endanger innocent lives, violate international law, and threaten freedom of navigation and maritime security in the Red Sea .

The attack targeted the Tanzania-flagged vessel Tihamah in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait on Tuesday, reportedly striking it with ballistic missiles and causing a fire onboard . According to information available, three Pakistani nationals were killed and one sustained injuries .

The Foreign Minister confirmed that Pakistan is in contact with Saudi authorities and the internationally recognized Government of Yemen to ascertain further details about the incident . He has directed the Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh to coordinate immediately with concerned authorities to pursue the retrieval and repatriation of the mortal remains of the deceased nationals and to ensure all possible assistance is provided to the injured Pakistani .

"We are closely following the situation and will continue to remain in close contact with the concerned authorities," Dar added
