Pakistan Army says 12 militants killed in Balochistan, KP operations

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s military said Tuesday that security forces killed five militants in an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan’s Panjgur district, while seven others were killed in a separate operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district last week.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Panjgur operation was conducted on Aug. 10 against members of what it called “Fitna Al Hindustan.” Security forces recovered weapons, ammunition and improvised explosive devices from the site and subsequently carried out a sanitization operation.

In Hangu, security forces launched an operation on Aug. 7 after receiving intelligence about the presence of militants whom the military described as members of “Fitna Al Khwarij” and an Indian proxy.

ISPR said seven militants were killed during an exchange of fire after they took refuge inside a mosque. It said Captain Hamza Akram, 27, from Narowal district, was also killed while leading his troops.

The military said the militants were involved in attacks against security and law-enforcement personnel and civilians.

Pakistan has repeatedly accused India of supporting militant groups operating inside Pakistan. ISPR said counterterrorism operations under the government-approved Azm-e-Istehkam campaign would continue nationwide.
