By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD -Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday spoke with his Pakistani and Afghan counterparts and discussed the ongoing tension at border between Islamabad and Kabul.

In a statement, issued from Islamabad premier office, it said Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister  Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday evening, focusing on bilateral cooperation, regional developments, and the security situation along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border.

During the discussion, the two leaders also reviewed developments in the Middle East. Prime Minister Shehbaz briefed Prime Minister Anwar on his participation in the signing ceremony of the Gaza Peace Agreement held in Sharm el-Sheikh. Both leaders welcomed the agreement, expressing hope that it would help end the suffering of the Palestinian people, ensure unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza, and lay the foundation for lasting peace and stability in the region.

Turning to regional security, Prime Minister Shehbaz apprised his Malaysian counterpart of the situation along the Pakistan–Afghanistan border. He stressed that while Pakistan seeks peace and stability in Afghanistan, it continues to face cross-border terrorism from Afghan soil. The Prime Minister urged the Afghan authorities to take decisive and verifiable action to dismantle terrorist networks—including Fitna-al-Khwarij, Fitna-al-Hindustan, TTP, and BLA—that orchestrate attacks inside Pakistan.

He reaffirmed that Pakistan had agreed to a temporary ceasefire at Kabul’s request to facilitate dialogue in Doha but underscored that the continuation of peace depends on concrete steps from the Afghan side.

Prime Minister Anwar expressed concern over the situation and offered Malaysia’s support in reducing tensions and restoring stability in the region.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to continue close engagement and coordination on issues of mutual interest.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also spoke with his Afghan counterpart Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund and discussed the regional security situation.

Akhund reiterated Kabul'sprincipled position that Afghanistan does not seek war and stated that under the leadership of the Minister of National Defense, negotiations with the Pakistani side are ongoing in Doha, and that Afghanistan, while respecting the dialogue, awaits its outcome, according to statement, issued by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.

The Malaysian Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the initiation of talks following tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan and emphasized resolving the issue through diplomacy.

Anwar Ibrahim reaffirmed that the matter should be settled through dialogue and mutual understanding, and he conveyed Malaysia’s readiness to assist in this regard—an offer that was appreciated by the Afghan Prime Minister, who assured that the negotiations are actively progressing.
