Iran warns of 'decisive' response to any US attack as regional diplomacy intensifies

TEHRAN - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that Tehran would respond decisively to any military action by the United States, as regional leaders stepped up diplomatic efforts to prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East.

According to statements released by the Iranian government and state media, Araghchi made the remarks during separate telephone conversations on Saturday with Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan.

Araghchi said Iran was fully prepared to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security, warning that any attack by the United States, Israel or any regional country participating in military action against Iran would face a "firm and proportionate" response from Iran's armed forces.

The calls came amid heightened regional tensions following US President Donald Trump's earlier threat of military action, which was later withdrawn, according to Iranian officials. Iran also discussed what it described as the potential consequences of further destabilizing actions in the region.

Separately, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urged Trump in a phone call to prioritize dialogue and diplomatic solutions to reduce tensions, Saudi state news agency SPA reported. The crown prince warned against a broader regional conflict and emphasized the importance of preserving regional and international security and stability.
