ISLAMABAD - Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Iran are preparing to hold a four-country meeting in Tehran to discuss the US war on Iran, Israeli military policies and escalating regional tensions, Iranian officials said on Monday.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the meeting followed a proposal by Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Asim Munir, who has been engaged in regional diplomatic efforts.

Tehran agreed to the proposed gathering, Baghaei said, adding that discussions would also cover what Iran describes as Israel’s expansionist policies and instability in Lebanon.

The planned meeting comes amid heightened tensions across West Asia and efforts by regional powers to coordinate their security approaches as the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel continues.

Iranian state news agency IRNA reported that Munir would meet senior Saudi and Turkish officials during a visit to Tehran. The participants are expected to include Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman and Türkiye’s intelligence chief, Ibrahim Kalin.

Ali Bagheri, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said the discussions would focus on the concept of “endogenous security” in West Asia -- an approach that emphasises regional countries taking greater responsibility for their own security.

The proposed gathering could provide an opportunity for Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye to discuss regional stability directly with Iran, although officials have not announced a detailed agenda or confirmed the meeting’s outcome.

Pakistan has maintained diplomatic contacts with Tehran as tensions have intensified, while also seeking to strengthen cooperation with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. The four countries have overlapping interests in regional stability, counterterrorism and preventing further escalation.

The talks are also expected to take place against the backdrop of continuing concerns over Israeli military operations and the situation in Lebanon.
