Pakistan, Iran vow to deepen cooperation during top security official’s visit

Islamabad — Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation during the two-day visit of Dr. Ali Ardeshir Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday .

Larijani visited Islamabad from Nov. 25–26 and held formal delegation-level talks with Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Lt. Gen. Muhammad Asim Malik. He also met President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Chief of Army Staff Gen. Asim Munir.

Discussions during the engagements highlighted the “longstanding bonds of friendship” rooted in shared history, culture and faith, the ministry noted. Both sides reaffirmed their intention to expand cooperation in political, economic and security fields.

The two governments agreed to enhance counterterrorism and border security coordination, improve regional connectivity, and strengthen trade and economic ties. Cultural exchanges and people-to-people links were also emphasized as areas for deeper engagement.

The talks further covered key regional and international issues, with both sides underlining the value of constructive dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution to promote broader stability. Pakistan and Iran reiterated their resolve to continue collaborating at regional and multilateral forums to address shared challenges.

Islamabad said the visit contributed to the “positive momentum” in bilateral ties and would support efforts to advance mutual prosperity, peace and stability in the region.
