Pakistan's interior minister arrives in Tehran as US signals possible Iran talks within days

By The South Asia Times

TEHRAN - Pakistan’s Interior Minister has arrived in Tehran and held meetings with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, as regional diplomacy accelerates alongside ongoing US-Iran negotiations, officials said.

The Pakistani minister’s visit comes amid intensified diplomatic activity following the recent ceasefire framework between Washington and Tehran.

In Tehran, discussions focused on bilateral relations, regional stability, and the evolving situation following the US-Iran understanding, according to Iranian and Pakistani officials.

Separately, US Vice President JD Vance said high-level talks with Iran could take place as early as Sunday, noting that engagement would depend on the arrival of key regional participants, according to Anadolu Agency.

“We’ll plan the talks when the principals from the Iranian government, also the Qatari and the Pakistani government, arrive,” Vance told Fox News, adding that discussions could happen “as soon as tomorrow.”

He acknowledged that the process remains fluid but said US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff were already on the ground working on technical aspects of the negotiations.

Vance also expressed confidence that Washington could maintain the current ceasefire framework despite potential disagreements over implementation.

The Pakistani minister’s presence in Tehran highlights Islamabad’s continued diplomatic engagement with Iran as regional stakeholders coordinate efforts linked to the broader US-Iran dialogue process.
