ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Army wrapped up the 9th edition of its prestigious Team Spirit competition at Kharian in Punjab province, with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Force (CDF), attending the closing ceremony as chief guest, according to the military’s media wing (ISPR).

The 60-hour exercise, held from February 5 to 9, tested participating teams in an intensive patrolling operation across semi-mountainous terrain designed to replicate realistic combat conditions. The drill aimed to sharpen professional military skills while encouraging the exchange of tactical experience, innovative ideas, and best practices among allied forces.

Over time, the Team Spirit competition has gained recognition as a high-level international military forum that promotes professional excellence, interoperability, and mutual understanding between partner nations. Officials say the exercise also strengthens military-to-military ties and fosters camaraderie in demanding operational environments.

This year’s event drew participation from 19 countries, including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, Malaysia, Qatar, Bangladesh, and Morocco, among others. Indonesia, Myanmar, and Thailand attended as observers. Alongside foreign contingents, 16 domestic teams from the Pakistan Army and Navy took part, with representatives from the Pakistan Air Force observing the drills.

Addressing the ceremony, Field Marshal Munir praised the participants for demonstrating “exceptional professionalism, physical and mental endurance, operational competence and high morale.” He stressed that multinational engagements are critical for enhancing collective preparedness and adapting to the changing nature of modern warfare.

Reaffirming the Pakistan Army’s core values of “character, courage and competence,” Munir noted that these attributes continue to guide Pakistani troops, particularly in ongoing counterterrorism operations.

During the visit, the army chief also observed training activities at the National Counter Terrorism Centre in Pabbi, including a newly established tactical simulator. He emphasized the growing importance of simulator-based training as a complement to traditional battlefield preparation.

International observers and defense attachés attending the event commended the high standards of organization and professionalism, reflecting Pakistan’s continued effort to position itself as a key player in regional and global military cooperation.
