Pakistan, China Call for Immediate Ceasefire in Middle East, Back Diplomatic Path

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD-  Pakistan and China on Friday have reaffirmed their joint commitment to de-escalation and diplomacy in the Middle East, calling for an immediate end to hostilities and a return to peace talks amid rising regional tensions.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said he held a “productive and cordial” conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the evolving situation in West Asia.

“It was a pleasure to speak today with my friend,” Dar said, adding that both sides agreed on the urgent need to restore peace and stability across the Middle East and the wider region.

According to Dar, the two countries underscored support for all efforts aimed at securing an immediate ceasefire, resuming negotiations, protecting civilians, and ensuring the safety of key maritime shipping routes. Both sides also stressed adherence to the principles of the United Nations Charter.

Wang Yi conveyed China’s appreciation for Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic engagement and efforts to defuse tensions, Dar added. The two sides agreed to maintain close coordination and continue working towards resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

The exchange comes at a time of heightened instability in the Middle East, with escalating tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States raising concerns of a wider regional conflict.

Pakistan has consistently advocated for restraint and a negotiated settlement, positioning itself as a voice for de-escalation, while China has stepped up its diplomatic outreach, urging all parties to prioritize dialogue over confrontation.
