Pakistan Navy rescues 20 crew members from sinking cargo dhow off Ormara coast

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Navy, in coordination with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), rescued all 20 crew members from a sinking Pakistani cargo dhow in the Arabian Sea after the vessel began taking on water east of the coastal town of Ormara, the military said.

According to a statement issued by the military's media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the rescue operation was launched immediately after the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre received a distress call from the vessel.

The Pakistan Navy diverted PNS Hunain along with aerial assets to the area to carry out the emergency operation.

All 20 crew members were safely evacuated from the distressed dhow in what the military described as a swift and coordinated rescue effort. The rescued sailors are receiving the necessary medical care, ISPR said.

The military credited the successful operation to the professionalism and rapid response of the Pakistan Navy and the PMSA personnel involved in the mission.

The operation highlights the Pakistan Navy's and the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency's readiness to respond to maritime emergencies and their continued commitment to safeguarding lives at sea through round-the-clock search and rescue capabilities, the statement added.
