Pakistan receives worldwide support following deadly Mosque bombing in Islamabad, PM Sharif pledges justice

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude on Friday for the outpouring of international support following a deadly suicide bombing in Islamabad that killed at least 31 people and injured 169 others during Friday prayers.

Taking to X , Sharif wrote, “I am grateful for the strong messages of sympathy and support that we have received from across the globe, in the wake of today’s heart-wrenching suicide attack in Islamabad. The support of our friends and partners has always remained critical in Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts.”

The Prime Minister vowed that the perpetrators of the attack would be brought to justice with full force, stressing that their “nefarious designs will never be allowed to succeed.” He added that the Pakistani nation stands united and remains resolute in its commitment to defeating terrorism.

Global leaders quickly voiced their condemnation of the attack. The United States called the bombing “unacceptable” and extended condolences to the victims’ families, with Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker reaffirming Washington’s support for Pakistan’s peace and security efforts.

The United Kingdom described the attack as “deeply shocking” and “abhorrent,” while Australia expressed grief and solidarity with Pakistan during this “difficult time.” The European Union also condemned the violence, emphasizing the need for international cooperation against terrorism.

Regional actors, including Iran and Afghanistan, similarly denounced the attack, with Iran’s ambassador conveying condolences and reaffirming Tehran’s commitment to combating extremism in the region. Several Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, and Sudan, also issued statements of support and sympathy for the victims.

The suicide bombing, one of the deadliest in Islamabad in recent years, occurred at a religious site during Friday prayers. Pakistani authorities have since heightened security measures in the capital, while investigations continue to identify those responsible.

Sharif’s message, coupled with the global outpouring of support, underscores Pakistan’s determination to respond firmly to acts of terrorism while maintaining national unity and international partnerships in the fight against extremist violence.
