Pakistan’s PTI Raises Concerns Over Former PM Imran Khan’s Health

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has raised alarms over the health of its leader, former Prime Minister Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated at Adiala Jail for the past three years.

The party claims Khan is suffering from a serious eye condition that could result in permanent vision loss if not treated promptly.

In a statement, PTI said Khan had been diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) in his right eye, a condition that blocks blood flow in the retina.

The party alleged that jail authorities were insisting the treatment be carried out within prison, despite medical advice that it could not be safely performed there. PTI has demanded that Khan be allowed to receive care at Shaukat Khanum Hospital or another reputable facility of his choice.

The party also noted that a petition for Khan’s medical check-up has been pending before the court since August 2025, and PTI lawmakers filed a fresh plea at the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday seeking permission to meet him.

Khan’s sisters, however, questioned the reports. Aleema Khan said the family had not been allowed to visit him for over three months and expressed surprise that the news had been leaked to the media. Uzma Khan said her last visit on December 2 lasted 20 minutes, during which Khan did not report any eye problems. Noreen Khan warned that spreading such rumors appeared intended to “test the family,” and stressed that any deliberate harm to him would be unacceptable.

Reports also suggested that Khan underwent a procedure at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) late Saturday night, though hospital officials gave conflicting accounts of the treatment, according to daily Dawn.

PTI leadership urged media and social platforms to report only verified information, warning that unconfirmed reports could create public anxiety and jeopardize Khan’s legal and personal safety. Shaukat Khanum Hospital also expressed concern over the reports and requested immediate access for Khan’s personal doctors, stressing that any delay could result in irreversible harm.

As of now, the Pakistani government has not commented on the claims regarding Khan’s medical condition.
