Death Toll From Pakistan Floods Rises to 706, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Worst-Hit

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD – The death toll from Pakistan’s devastating floods has climbed to 706, with nearly 400 people killed in the past five days alone, according to the latest figures released by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been the hardest-hit province, where 435 people have lost their lives, many of them in the mountainous district of Buner, where dozens remain missing. Rescue teams are still searching for survivors and recovering bodies from submerged areas.

The NDMA data showed that 164 deaths have been reported in Punjab, followed by 34 in Gilgit-Baltistan, 29 in Sindh, 22 each in Balochistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, and eight in Islamabad.

Authorities warned that the toll could rise further as heavy rains continue and rescue operations remain under way in remote areas cut off by floodwaters and landslides.

Federal and provincial disaster management teams, along with the army and Rescue 1122, are engaged in relief efforts, including evacuations and medical assistance to the displaced. Thousands of families have been forced to flee their homes, while damage to infrastructure, roads, and bridges has hampered aid delivery in several districts.
