Sweden says Israel should be expelled from international institutions, calls for isolation

By The South Asia Times

Stockholm -  Sweden has called for stronger international measures against Israel, signaling growing concern within Europe over the escalating conflict in the Middle East.

Swedish officials have raised the possibility of limiting Israel’s role in international forums, citing concerns over recent military actions and their humanitarian and economic consequences. The stance marks a notable shift from the more cautious positions traditionally held by many Western nations.

The move comes as tensions intensify across the region, including cross-border hostilities involving groups such as Hezbollah, and increasing fears of a broader conflict.

However, the United States has shown little support for Sweden’s position, underscoring divisions among Western allies on how to respond.

Analysts say Sweden’s approach could encourage further debate within Europe, though it remains unclear whether other countries will adopt a similar stance or maintain existing alliances. Stockholm suggested kicking Israel from all international institutions and isolating Tel Aviv to stop it from aggression against others.
