US, Australia, Japan, India splits to include Ukraine crisis in Quad meeting joint statement

CANBERRA (TSAT) - India on Friday hit back US when resisted to include Ukraine crisis in the joint statement of the so-called Quad alliance, a bloc of four nations — the US, India, Australia and Japan —.

The New Delhi apparently disappointed Washington who was expected support from India in current difficult time when its tension is growing bwith Russia over Ukraine.

The Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar even hesitated to respond a question when a journalist asked India's position on current crisis in Ukraine and said the Quad meeting will focus on the Indo-Pacific.

“This meeting is focused on the Indo-Pacific, so I think you should figure out the geography there.  And where we stand, our position on Ukraine, we have laid it out in public at the UN Security Council,” Indian top diplomate said before the meeting in presence of his US counterpart.

The Indian foreign minister response disappointed Secretary Blinken who was expected that New Delhi would stand with its strategic partner in current difficult time.

“A number of countries have made this clear as well.  All of the G7 countries came together, the world’s leading democratic economies, to make clear that massive consequences would follow from renewed aggression,” Blinken told reporters before the Jaishankar remarks.

Blinken said Washington is prepared to resolve the Ukraine issued through dialogue, however the second option is very clear to build deterrence and building defense and making it clear to Russia that if it chooses the path of renewed aggression, it will face massive consequences.

However, after the meeting when the four foreign ministers issued a joint statement, there was no mentioned of the Ukraine crisis.

Quad was formed by the US along with Australia, India and Japan to use it against the China.

However, on Friday Washington also expected to use the form against the Russia as well.

Analysts believed that India has “knife in the back” to its strategic allay and left the US alone in its difficult time when Washington trying to include as much as possible allies to build pressure on Russia.

Experts believed that the Indian move could hurt Washington and Biden administration would loose trust on its so-called strategic ally.
