By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD: The Chief Minister slot of the most populous province of Pakistan on Friday snatched by Deputy Speaker from former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s nominee after rejecting his 10 votes.

PML-Q's PTI-backed candidate Parvez Elahi has lost the Punjab the chief minister's election to PML-N's Hamza Shehbaz, after Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari ruled that PML-Q members' votes will not be counted in the election of Punjab chief minister in light of party head Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain's letter, Dawn reported.

Elahi received 186 votes while his opponent Hamza secured 178 votes in the election.

However, Mazarin rejected 10 votes of PML-Q and declared Hamza won the election.

Legal experts in Pakistan called the Mazarin ruling against the country’s constitution.

“I think the deputy speaker violated the constitution,” Brristater Aitazaz Ahsan, a renowned Pakistani politician, and lawyer told ARY News.

Former PM Imran Khan also rejected the Mazarin today decision and urged the public to come out on the roads against this unconstitutional decision.

Khan’s party also announced to challenge the decision in the country's top court.

Meanwhile, thousands of people came out across the country on roads after Khan's announcement and lodged protests against the Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker's decision.
