PESHAWAR, Pakistan - In a deadly attack in northwest Pakistan’s Kohat district, seven people, including five police officials, were killed when militants ambushed a police vehicle on Lachi–Shakardara Road.

Three others were injured in the assault, which also claimed the lives of two civilians, authorities said.

Among the deceased were Deputy Superintendent of Police Asad Mahmood, constable Anar Gul, a police guard, and the vehicle’s driver. District Police Officer Shehbaz Elahi said.

Security forces responded quickly, placing the area on high alert and deploying reinforcements while launching a search operation to track down the attackers.

The region has seen a rise in militant activity in recent months, with security forces conducting ongoing counterterrorism operations across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighboring Balochistan.

Officials noted that nearly 50 militants have been killed in these operations over the past week, though attacks on police and civilians continue to pose a serious threat.
