Pakistan ruling coalition leaders criticize top judiciary hours before resume hearing in Punjab crises  case

By Mashal Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan ruling coalition leaders on Monday spoke against the country’s top judiciary just hours ahead when the Supreme Court was resuming hearing in the Punjab political crisis cases.

Addressing a news conference in the Prime Minister's secretariat in Islamabad, Maryam Nawaz said

“I have been advised not to hold the media talk as it would affect her appeal in the Panama Papers case that was being heard by the Islamabad High Court and was in its “final stages” Dawn quoted Maryam as saying.

“However, I said that the people’s representative has to think beyond themselves and think about the people.”

Maulana Fazlurehman, Aimal Wali Khan, and foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto also raised questions over the neutrality of the top court judges and demanded to form a full court bench to hear the case of the Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly ruling.

The ruling alliance wants the full court to delay the case as currently, several judges of the top court are on summer vacations.

Supreme Court of Pakistan is hearing a case against the deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly Dost Muhammad Mazari Friday’s ruling in the Chief Minister election when he rejected PML-Q’s votes and declared PML-N’s Hamza Shehbaz victory despite Hamza losing the election.

Former Attorney General Anwar Mansoor told the ARY News that today the PDM leaders committed contempt of court and the Supreme Court should take notice against these leaders.

“They have committed contempt of court and the press conference was held in the prime minister's house, which shows the premier is also involved in this game,” Mansoor said.

Maryam Nawaz is already convicted in corrupt cases and is now on bail but she lead the press conference and used the official building of the prime minister's house against the judiciary.

Former Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary demanded to take notice of how a convicted person could use the prime minister's building for news conferences against the judiciary.

“I demand from the supreme court to include names of these leaders as they will flee the country,” Fawad said.

He also condemned the PDM leaders for holding a press conference against the top judiciary to pressurize the judges.
