ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice of Pakistan is currently a top trend on Twitter in Pakistan after the ruling alliance moved a bill and resolution against the top court in parliament to clip top judge's wings after the Supreme Court of Pakistan take notice of the election commission's action to postpone the elections in two provinces.

Pakistani nation stood behind the top judge as he ordered on March 1st to hold elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province as per the constitution of Pakistan.

The main opposition party Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) of former prime minister Imran Khan, who currently enjoys popularity across the country, dissolved his party's provincial governments and announced fresh elections.

However, the ruling alliance of 13 parties in the center hesitate to participate in the elections as Khan could easily win it.

Last month, PTI moved to the Supreme Court against the delay in the election as the Election Commission was viewed  that they couldn’t fix the election date.

Later, the Supreme Court of Pakistan ordered to hold elections within 90 days as per the contitution of the country, and the President fix date of April 30 for the election in Punjab, the most populous province of the country. While Governor of KP province didn't obey the court order till date.

However, last week, the Election Commission suddenly postponed the election until Oct.8, which the opposition believed the election authority trying to rescue the ruling alliance from defeat.

PTI again approached the top court and challenged the election commission order.

Soon after the top court began hearing on the PTI petition, the ruling alliance leaders started a campaign against the judges on social media and criticized them.

On Tuesday evening, apparently  to pressure the top court, the cabinet approved a bill aimed at curtailing the chief justice of Pakistan’s (CJP) powers to take suo motu notices and constituting benches of the Supreme Court and later presented in the National Assembly, according to Dawn.

The ruling alliance also passed a resolution against the top court which stated that the House deemed the judiciary’s “unreasonable interference in political matters the cause of political instability”.

The government move brought a strong reaction from PTI, who rejected the bill and resolution and said they would stand behind the top court.

Currently, over 120 members of the opposition are not part of the parliament as they announced to their resignation last year and didn’t come back to the parliament.

In absence of opposition, around 174 members of 13 parties ruling alliance easily passed legislation and resolutions of its choice.

“The government continuously targets the judiciary and we condemn this action and we reject the proposed amendments as only elected parliament can make legislation after a detailed debate. We also strongly condemned the efforts of the ruling alliance to create division inside the judiciary,” PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry tweeted.

Meanwhile, the lawyer community call a lawyer convention on Wednesday to chalk out their strategy and support the judiciry.
