Pakistan's President Zardari to Undertake Official Visit to Iraq, Strengthening Bilateral Ties

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari will undertake his five-days long visit to Iraq from Saturday, according to foreign ministry.

Mr Zardari is visiting Iraq from Dec. 20 to 24 at the invitation of  Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, President of the Republic of Iraq, said the ministry.

During his stay, President Zardari is scheduled to hold high-level meetings with the Iraqi leadership to review the full spectrum of bilateral relations. Discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation across key areas, including trade and investment, energy, reconstruction, manpower, technology, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

The leaders are also expected to deliberate on regional and international developments, as well as collaboration within multilateral forums.

The visit aims to reinforce traditionally warm and cordial ties between Pakistan and Iraq, identify new avenues for partnership, and enhance people-to-people connections. Particular emphasis is expected on religious tourism and economic collaboration, reflecting the shared cultural and spiritual links between the two countries.

Officials say the visit reflects Pakistan’s continued engagement with Iraq and its commitment to fostering a forward-looking, results-oriented, and strategic partnership. The initiative is seen as contributing not only to Iraq’s stability and development but also to broader regional peace and prosperity.

President Zardari’s visit marks another milestone in the bilateral relationship and is expected to further strengthen political, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations.
