Pakistan PM Shehbaz, China’s Wang Yi Vow to Deepen Strategic Partnership

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is on an official visit to Pakistan, and reaffirmed the two countries’ resolve to further strengthen their “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership.”

The meeting on late Thursday at the Prime Minister House was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and senior cabinet members.

Welcoming Wang, Shehbaz praised China’s consistent support for Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and development. He lauded President Xi Jinping’s “visionary leadership” in consolidating ties and said he looked forward to meeting Xi and other senior leaders during his upcoming visit to Tianjin and Beijing for the SCO Council of Heads of State summit and the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance.

The Prime Minister underlined Pakistan’s desire to expand cooperation with China in trade, investment, ICT, agriculture, minerals, and industrialization. He also highlighted the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as vital for Pakistan’s socio-economic growth and regional connectivity.

Wang described Pakistan as an “ironclad friend” and pledged China’s continued support, stressing Beijing’s commitment to work closely with Islamabad for regional peace, development, and stability.
