Trump Threatens Military Action Against Colombia While Defending Strikes on Venezuela

By The South Asia Times

WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump has indicated that while he does not expect a second strike against Venezuela, military action could be taken if officials “don’t behave.”

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, Trump defended the recent US strikes in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro, currently in New York awaiting a court appearance.

Trump operation has drawn strong support from Republicans but outrage from Democrats, some of whom argue his actions violate international law and could justify impeachment, though they lack the numbers to remove him from office.

The president suggested that additional military operations in Venezuela may follow if remaining members of the administration do not cooperate with his plans to “fix” the country.

While he said intervention in Cuba is unlikely, he openly threatened Colombia, telling reporters a military operation against the Colombian government “sounds good to me.”

Trump’s remarks have raised alarms among international observers, signaling a potential escalation of US involvement in the region.

Earlier, Colombian President Gustavo Petro openly challenges Donald Trump, warning that any attempt to detain or target him would spark mass resistance.

“If you want to jail me, try and see if you can. If you want to put me in an orange uniform, try it. The Colombian people will take to the streets to defend me.”
