Pakistan to enhance trade, cultural ties with Tajikistan

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan will enhance trade and cultural cooperation with Tajikistan as the two countries seek to further strengthen their longstanding bilateral relations, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said during a meeting with Tajikistan’s Minister of Culture Ms. Sattoriyon Matlubakhon Amonzoda in Islamabad on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the prime minister welcomed the visiting minister and her delegation at the Prime Minister’s House and underscored the deep-rooted historical, cultural and civilizational ties between Pakistan and Tajikistan. He said the shared heritage of the two brotherly nations provides a strong foundation for expanding people-to-people contacts as well as cooperation in trade and culture.

The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of bilateral relations and discussed ways to deepen collaboration, particularly in the cultural sector. He highlighted the significance of the ongoing Pakistan–Tajikistan Cultural Week being held in Islamabad, calling it a landmark initiative to showcase the rich traditions, arts and heritage of both countries and to promote greater mutual understanding.

Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to multifaceted cooperation with Tajikistan, the prime minister said Islamabad remains keen to strengthen engagement across various sectors for the mutual benefit of both sides. He also conveyed his best wishes to President Emomali Rahmon and expressed hope to welcome him to Pakistan for an official visit next year.

The Tajik minister conveyed the warm greetings of President Emomali Rahmon and appreciated Pakistan’s hospitality and its focus on cultural diplomacy. She expressed Tajikistan’s strong interest in expanding joint initiatives, including cultural exchanges, festivals and exhibitions.

The statement said the visit of the Tajik minister of culture is taking place in the context of Tajikistan’s Cultural Week currently being celebrated in Pakistan, as agreed between President Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
