Pakistan Rejects Indian Claims Over ‘Operation Sindoor’, Calls for Respect of International Norms

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan on Monday strongly rejected what it described as “baseless assertions and provocative claims” made by Indian leaders during a recent Lok Sabha debate on the so-called “Operation Sindoor,” calling the Indian narrative dangerous, distorted, and aimed at fueling domestic political sentiment.

Addressing a weekly press briefing, Foreign Office spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said the Indian claims amounted to an unjustified glorification of aggression and a distortion of facts, particularly in relation to the events of May 6–7, when India launched strikes allegedly targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam attack.

“The world knows that India attacked Pakistan without any verifiable evidence or a credible investigation into the Pahalgam Attack,” Khan said. “Those strikes led to the martyrdom of innocent men, women, and children — not terrorists.”

He added that India had failed to achieve any of its strategic objectives in the operation, while Pakistan's response, including the downing of Indian fighter jets, was a “resounding success” that exposed India’s military miscalculation.

Khan criticized Indian Home Minister’s recent remarks on “Operation Mahadev,” dismissing them as “fabricated” and raising questions about their timing. “Is it a mere coincidence that the alleged perpetrators of the Pahalgam Attack were killed just as the Lok Sabha debate began?” he asked.

He also noted that Pakistan’s offer for an independent and transparent investigation into the Pahalgam incident was ignored by India, which chose to act as “judge, jury, and executioner.”

Dismissing India’s rhetoric about establishing a “new normal” in bilateral relations, Khan said: “For us, the only ‘normal’ is respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and adherence to the UN Charter.”

Responding to Indian accusations of “nuclear blackmail,” the spokesperson said such claims were an attempt to deflect from New Delhi’s own aggressive behavior. “Pakistan deterred India through its conventional capabilities. Discipline and restraint remain our guiding principles.”

Khan also condemned India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a “blatant disregard for international treaties” and a threat to regional cooperation. He urged India to “immediately fulfill its treaty obligations” rather than take unilateral actions.

“India’s continued reliance on disinformation, jingoism, and chest-thumping risks destabilizing South Asia,” Khan warned. He reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to peace, regional stability, and a meaningful dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues — including the core dispute of Jammu and Kashmir.
