Pakistan Urges End to Israeli Occupation, Condemns Israeli Settlement Activity in Cccupied West Bank and East Jerusalem

By The South Asia Times

NEW YORK - Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Palestinian self-determination and called for the immediate end to Israeli occupation, during a UN Security Council briefing on the Middle East.

Speaking at the session, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, strongly condemned a recent terrorist attack at a religious gathering in Sydney and expressed condolences to the victims’ families, reiterating Pakistan’s firm rejection of terrorism in all its forms.

Turning to the Middle East, the ambassador said the Palestinian people have endured decades of illegal occupation marked by dispossession and denial of basic rights, with the humanitarian situation in Gaza worsening dramatically over the past two years. He noted that more than 70,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed, while communities and essential infrastructure have been destroyed.

Ambassador Ahmad welcomed international efforts to revive the peace process, including recent high-level conferences and UN initiatives aimed at preserving the two-State solution. He acknowledged the facilitation role played by the United States, Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye, and said Pakistan supported Security Council Resolution 2803 as part of the Arab-Islamic group.

He also warned that Israeli settlement activity in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem had reached record levels in 2025, violating international law and undermining prospects for peace. Pakistan stressed the need for a sustained ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access, accountability, and a time-bound political process leading to an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
