Pakistan Navy rescues 6 Indian crew members from stranded vessel in Arabian Sea

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD - The Pakistan Navy has rescued six Indian crew members and one Indonesian sailor from a disabled offshore vessel in the Arabian Sea, the military's media wing said Tuesday.

The vessel, MV Gautam, suffered a critical technical failure while en route from Oman to India, leaving it stranded at sea with seven crew members aboard, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Mumbai transmitted the distress alert, prompting the Pakistan Navy to deploy PMSA Ship Kashmir to the location.

Upon arrival, the Pakistani crew provided food, medical aid, and technical assistance to help restore essential systems and ensure the safety of all personnel on board.

"This operation underscores Pakistan Navy's commitment to maritime safety and humanitarian responsibilities, irrespective of nationality," the ISPR said, adding that it highlights the navy's readiness to respond to emergencies across regional waters.

There was no immediate comment from Indian maritime authorities.

The rescue comes amid often tense relations between Pakistan and India, but maritime emergencies have historically seen cross-border cooperation under international safety protocols.
