Pakistan, Afghanistan Reaffirm Commitment to Peace, Connectivity and Security Cooperation

By The South Asia Times

KABUL— Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, held key meetings with top Afghan leaders in Kabul on the sidelines of the signing ceremony for the Framework Agreement on the Joint Feasibility Study of the Uzbek-Afghan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Corridor.

Senator Dar met Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Muhammad Hassan Akhund and Acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani. During the meetings, the leaders discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, including regional peace and security, trade and transit cooperation, and efforts to boost regional connectivity.

In his meeting with Interior Minister Haqqani, both sides held in-depth discussions on security challenges and reaffirmed the shared resolve to eliminate threats facing the region. Senator Dar highlighted the importance of addressing critical concerns—particularly border management and security—to realize the full potential of economic collaboration and regional development.

Earlier, Senator Dar also participated in a trilateral meeting with the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. The three sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening ties and promoting long-term peace, regional connectivity, and shared prosperity.

The trilateral also recalled their previous meeting in April 2025 and agreed to maintain high-level contacts to advance bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the region.
