Pakistan, Saudi Arabia express deep concern over renewed US-Iran strikes, urge restraint

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have expressed deep concern over renewed military escalation between the United States and Iran, warning that the latest hostilities threaten regional peace despite a ceasefire framework agreed last month.

According to Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar held a telephone conversation on Saturday with Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud to discuss the deteriorating security situation in the Middle East.

The two foreign ministers reviewed recent developments and voiced concern over the renewed escalation despite the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the United States and Iran in June 2026.

"They agreed that the renewed conflict serves no one's interest and undermines efforts toward regional peace and stability," Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

During the conversation, Prince Faisal shared Saudi Arabia's assessment of ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at containing the crisis and stressed the importance of de-escalation and sustained dialogue to prevent a wider regional conflict.

Dar reiterated Pakistan's call for all parties to exercise maximum restraint and give diplomatic and mediation efforts the necessary time and space to achieve a peaceful resolution.

The two ministers also agreed to remain in close contact as the situation develops.

The latest exchange comes amid renewed US-Iran military strikes that have raised fears of a broader regional confrontation, weeks after both sides agreed to the Islamabad MoU intended to reduce tensions and create a framework for continued dialogue.

Pakistan has consistently advocated diplomacy over military action, urging all parties to avoid further escalation and resolve disputes through negotiations. Saudi Arabia has also emphasized dialogue and regional stability while engaging in diplomatic efforts to prevent the conflict from expanding.
