Pakistan’s diplomacy praised as Malaysia PM Anwar Ibrahim welcomes Iran-US peace breakthrough

By The South Asia Times

Kuala Lumpur  - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has praised Pakistan and its leadership for playing a key diplomatic role in advancing a potential breakthrough in the ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States, calling the latest ceasefire framework a “turning point” for global peace.

In a statement, Anwar welcomed the emerging agreement based on a ten-point proposal put forward by Tehran and positively received by Washington, expressing hope that it could lead to long-term stability across the Middle East and beyond. He stressed that negotiations must be conducted in good faith, warning that any process undermined by “deception and double-dealing” would fail to deliver lasting results.

Highlighting the broader regional implications, Anwar said the proposed framework should evolve into a comprehensive peace deal not only for Iran, but also for conflict-affected countries such as Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen. He also called for urgent international action to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, urging an end to the suffering of civilians.

Anwar reserved special praise for Shehbaz Sharif, commending his government’s “tireless and courageous diplomacy” in engaging all sides. He said Pakistan’s approach—maintaining dialogue without bias—reflected “the highest traditions of Muslim solidarity and international responsibility.”

Islamabad has recently intensified diplomatic outreach, working with regional and global partners to reduce tensions and encourage dialogue amid fears of wider escalation. Analysts say Pakistan’s positioning as a bridge between competing powers has enhanced its relevance in ongoing peace efforts.

Anwar reiterated Malaysia’s readiness to support diplomatic initiatives and called on the international community to ensure unimpeded humanitarian access to civilians affected by the conflict.

“Let this be a turning point towards lasting peace,” he said, adding that the world cannot afford another prolonged conflict with global economic and human consequences.
