Iran enters nuclear talks with US in Oman, calls for honored commitments

By The South Asia Times

TEHRAN - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Friday that Tehran is engaging in diplomacy “in good faith” ahead of nuclear negotiations with the United States in Oman.

“Iran enters diplomacy with open eyes and a steady memory of the past year. We engage in good faith and stand firm on our rights, Araghchi said on X, adding, "Commitments need to be honored. Equal standing, mutual respect and mutual interest are not rhetoric—they are a must and the pillars of a durable agreement."

The talks, scheduled in Muscat on Friday, will see the US represented by President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff, while Araghchi leads the Iranian delegation, according to the semi-official Tasnim News Agency.

The negotiations had faced uncertainty earlier this week, but a White House official confirmed they would proceed. The talks come amid heightened US-Iran tensions, including an American military buildup in the Persian Gulf and repeated threats of force by Washington.
