Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Türkiye — ‘Brothers Whose Hearts Beat Together,’ Says PM Shehbaz at Baku Victory Day Parade

By The South Asia Times

BAKU -  Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to peace while underscoring that no one would ever be allowed to challenge the country’s sovereignty or territorial integrity.

Addressing the Victory Day parade in Baku, the prime minister hailed the unbreakable bond among Pakistan, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye, describing the three nations as “brothers whose hearts beat together.” He said their presence, standing shoulder to shoulder in Baku, symbolized unity, strength, and shared pride on Azerbaijan’s momentous day.

“What a proud and scintillating sight it is to witness our valiant armed forces marching beside their Azerbaijani and Turkish brothers, as the skies come alive with the roar of the JF-17 Thunder jets — a resounding symbol of our enduring friendship that has grown from strength to strength,” the prime minister remarked.

He recalled that Azerbaijani and Turkish military contingents had also proudly marched alongside Pakistan’s Armed Forces in Islamabad on August 14 this year, during celebrations of Maarka-e-Haq, commemorating Pakistan’s historic victory in the four-day war with India.

Prime Minister Shehbaz extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Azerbaijan, saying their hearts swelled with pride as they celebrated the fifth anniversary of the nation’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020.

During the war Azerbaijan decisively defeated Armenia and liberated the Karabakh region from its occupation.

Most of the Karabakh region, which had been under Armenian occupation for nearly three decades, was liberated by Azerbaijan during a 44-day war in the fall of 2020, which ended after a Russian-brokered peace agreement and also opened the door to normalization with Yerevan, according to Anadolu Agency.

On Nov. 8, the Azerbaijani army liberated the city of Shusha, which was later declared as Victory Day by a presidential decree.

Initially, Victory Day was to be celebrated on Nov. 10, the day of the end of the Second Karabakh War, but this was later changed due to coinciding with the anniversary of the passing of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye.
