Pakistan Army Chief Visits Flood-Hit Areas of Punjab, Assures Revival of Religious Sites

By The South Asia Times

ISLAMABAD — Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Friday visited flood-affected areas of Punjab, including Sialkot Sector, Shakargarh, Narowal, and Kartarpur, to review the situation and ongoing rescue and relief operations, the military said in a statement.

During the visit, the Army Chief was given a detailed briefing on the prevailing conditions and preparations for the upcoming spell of rains. He commended the efforts of troops and the civil administration for their “coordinated and untiring” response in rescuing stranded people and providing relief to affected communities.

Munir also met with members of the local Sikh community and assured them that all religious sites damaged by the floods, including the revered Durbar Sahib Kartarpur, would be restored to their original state on a priority basis. “It is the responsibility of the state and its institutions to protect the minorities and their religious sites, and Pakistan will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling this duty,” he said.

The Sikh community welcomed the Army Chief with warmth and expressed gratitude for the assistance being provided by both the army and the civil administration during the calamity. Munir also conducted an aerial survey of Kartarpur to assess the damage caused by floodwaters.

The COAS further praised the proactive role of the civil administration, noting that timely measures had helped reduce loss of life and property. He also lauded the troops’ high morale, operational readiness, and dedication to serving the nation under challenging circumstances.

Upon his arrival, Field Marshal Munir was received by Corps Commander Gujranwala.
