4 Cops Martyred in Terrorist Attacks In Northwestern Pakistan

By Zahid Shah

PESHAWAR Four policemen including three traffic police personnel were martyred on Sunday in a targeted attack by terrorists in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan, officials said.

According to police the police officers were on duty near Dil Begu Khel in Lakki Marwat when “unidentified terrorists, who were on a motorcycle, opened fire on them.”

The officers—ticketing officer in-charge Jalal Khan, and personnel Azizullah and Abdullah—died on the spot. Their bodies were moved to Naurang Hospital, and a search operation was launched to track down the attackers.

In a separate incident in Bannu district, police constable Rashid Khan was shot and killed by assailants on a motorcycle while leaving his home for work in the Kashfi Khel area, Asif Hasan, spokesperson for the Bannu DPO, said. Police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.

Sohail Afridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, condemned the attacks, stating, “These cowardly acts against our law enforcement personnel will not go unpunished. Security forces are fully mobilized to bring the perpetrators to justice. Our officers are committed to protecting the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa despite these heinous attacks.”

Law enforcement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has faced a surge of attacks in recent months. Last month, five policemen were martyred in Karak when a police vehicle was ambushed, prompting a counter-terrorism operation that killed eight terrorists.

December saw further violence in Lakki Marwat and Bannu, including suicide bombings and gun attacks targeting police. Similar attacks in Hangu, Tank, and other districts have claimed the lives of multiple officers over the past three months.

Islamabad says TTP terrorists based in Afghanistan carrying out attacks targeting security forces and police in the region.
