Pakistan appoints former foreign ministry spokesperson as permanent representative to UN Geneva

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s former Foreign Ministry spokesperson and senior diplomat Ambassador Tahir Andrabi has taken up responsibilities as the country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Geneva, the Foreign Ministry said Saturday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar received a farewell call from Andrabi in Islamabad and praised his distinguished service at the Foreign Ministry, particularly his tenure as spokesperson and as Additional Secretary for Arms Control and Disarmament.
The ministry said Dar acknowledged Andrabi’s “effective role” in strengthening Pakistan’s strategic communication and expressed confidence that he would continue to advance the country’s interests through multilateral diplomacy in Geneva.
Andrabi was regarded as one of the Foreign Ministry’s most effective and prominent spokespersons during his tenure in the role, where he regularly represented Pakistan’s position on foreign policy, regional security and international diplomatic issues.
In Geneva, he will also oversee Pakistan’s engagement in key multilateral forums, including the UN Conference on Disarmament, where Pakistan currently holds the presidency.
Dar expressed confidence that Andrabi would further strengthen Pakistan’s multilateral engagement and diplomatic outreach in Geneva, while wishing him success in his new responsibilities.
Andrabi’s appointment comes as Pakistan seeks to maintain an active diplomatic role on disarmament, arms control and other international security issues through the Geneva-based UN institutions.
