Pakistan says militant death toll rises to 177 in Balochistan operations, 22 killed overnight

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, Pakistan - Pakistani security forces killed at least 22 more militants during ongoing search operations in southwestern Balochistan province overnight, raising the total number of militants killed to 177 over the past three days, a senior security official told The South Asia Times on Monday.

The operations are part of what security officials described as sanitisation efforts launched after a series of coordinated attacks across the region on Saturday.

Officials said 22 militants were killed overnight during follow-up operations, while a total of 48 civilians and security personnel have also lost their lives since the violence began.

Security forces, backed by intelligence agencies and police, are conducting operations at multiple locations across the province, tightening cordons against the attackers and their alleged facilitators, the officials said.

Authorities refer to the militant groups involved as “Fitna al-Hindustan Khwarij,” a term used by the state for certain terrorist groups operating in Balochistan.

“Over the past three days, a cumulative total of at least 177 militants have been neutralised,” a senior security official said, adding that operations remain ongoing and further militant casualties are expected.

Security forces also foiled another major suicide bombing attempt in Balochistan during ongoing search operations against Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) terrorists. An explosive-laden vehicle was intercepted, killing two women suicide bombers in Nushki before they could reach their intended target.

The latest operation follows a wave of coordinated attacks carried out at several locations across Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least populated province, which has long faced an insurgency targeting security forces, infrastructure, and civilians.

Officials said security forces would continue operations until the area is fully cleared, while investigations are underway to identify networks providing logistical and financial support to the attackers.

Pakistan officials said India is behind the terror attacks across Balochistan province, providing financial and logistical support to these terrorists. New Delhi denied it.
