Indian authorities demolish mosque, shops of Muslims in New Delhi

NEW DELHI (TSAT) - The Hindu nationalist ruling party BJP government on Wednesday launched an operation against Muslim community in the capital New Delhi and demolished dozen of their properties including damaged mosque. 

 

The local authorities in New Delhi launched the operation in Jahangirpuri and surrounding areas and targeted Muslim houses, shops, and the main mosque in the area. 

 

“Outside structure of our mosque has been damaged while dozens of shops of Muslim demolished in the area,” Javed Akhtar, a local resident of Jahangirpuri told TSAT. 

 

Earlier in the morning, the country's top court ordered the government to immediately stop the operation against Muslim properties, however, The Mayor of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, Raja Iqbal Singh refused to accept the court order and said he will demolishing the Muslim shops and houses until not receiving any order in writing, according to NDTV. 

 

The local authorities launched the operation after Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta wrote to the mayor, asking him to identify illegal constructions by "rioters" and demolish them, the broadcaster reported. 

 

On Saturday dozen people were injured in clashes after Hindu militants attacked on Muslim community during a Hanuman Jayanti procession.

 

The militants also pelted stones at Mosque while Muslims were performing Ramadan prayer at their holy place in Jahangirpuri. 

 

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court was informed by the legal counsel of Muslims that the same kind of operations is also underway  in other states like Uttar Pradesh, Gujrat, and Madhya Pradesh after last week's communal clashes, and the BJP government is only targeting the Muslim shops and houses branding them rioters. 

 

On Saturday, the local authorities in were demolished dozens of Muslim shops and houses in Rajasthan, Madya Pradesh, and Gujrat and accused them were part of attacks on RSS/BJP affiliated groups on eve of their new year celebrations.

A video posted on Twitter by prominent Indian civil rights activist and professor Ashok Swain shows that Indian police demolished shops of Muslims in Gujrat, the hometown of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

 

“Police in Gujarat, India bulldozing Muslim properties accusing them of instigating an anti-Muslim riot! No law, no Justice, no logic,” Swain wrote on Twitter. 

 

Gujrat police also arrested three local religious leaders and accused them to pelted on RSS rallies last week. 

 

The clashes and attacks on Muslims started last week when the Hindus celebrated their new year, Ram Navami, and held rallies across the country.

 

During rallies, the Hindu militant organization RSS, and affiliated groups attacks on Mosques in different areas that causing violence in several states. 

 

The ruling BJP party is the political wing of RSS. 

 

According to Indian journalist Hrish Raj Anand, 60 houses, and shops were burnt down only in Karauli, in Rajasthan. 

 

While so far, the Indian authorities didn’t share details of casualties and property losses during clashes across the country. 

 

But reports suggest that hundreds of houses and shops were burnt down and at least two people were killed and over 100 wounded in Gujrat, Madhya Paresh, UP, West Bengal, and Rajasthan states. 

 

The Indian Muslim leaders claimed that the violence was pre-planned to target Muslims on Ram Navami procession days.
