China stands behind Pakistan to protect its sovereignty, Wang assures Qureshi 

 

BEIJING (TSAT) - China Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday assured his Pakistani counterpart that Beijing will always stand behind Islamabad to protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty. 

 

During his meeting with Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Wang said that Pakistan is a reliable friend of China and Beijing will always stand with its all-weather friend. 

 

“I have received a clear message from the Chinese Foreign Minister that Pakistan is a reliable friend of China and they will always protect its territorial integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan,” Qureshi said in a video statement after his meeting with Wang. 

 

Wang also informed Qureshi that the Chinese leadership is agreed to roll back Pakistan's debit as currently Islamabad facing a financial crisis. 

 

China also assured Pakistan to fulfill its oil requirements if any shortage emerges due to the current global crisis, according to Qureshi. 

 

Qureshi along with his delegation arrived in Huangshan eastern China to participate in the third Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan’s Neighbouring Countries.

 

Meanwhile, in a statement, the Pakistan Foreign Ministry said that Qureshi reiterated his country's firm adherence to the “One-China” Policy and continued support on issues of China’s core interests and thanked China for its consistent support to Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, political stability, and socio-economic development.

 

Qureshi also thanked China for hosting the meetings on Afghanistan and emphasized deeper engagement between Pakistan and China, as well as Afghanistan’s other neighbors, to promote peace, stability, and development in the country and facilitate regional connectivity through the extension of CPEC to Afghanistan.

 

“The two sides also exchanged views on the situation in Ukraine. Highlighting Pakistan’s position calling for immediate cessation of hostility, provision of humanitarian assistance and continued efforts for a solution through dialogue and diplomacy, the Foreign Minister conveyed readiness to help facilitate a diplomatic solution including through OIC platform,” according to the ministry statement.

 

Later, Qureshi also with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on the regional situation.

 

Qureshi shared Pakistan’s principled position on the situation in Ukraine including cessation of hostilities, provision of humanitarian assistance, and efforts for a solution through dialogue and diplomacy.

 

He also expressed the hope that talks between Russia and Ukraine would succeed in finding a diplomatic solution. 

 

“The Foreign Minister also conveyed Pakistan’s readiness to reinforce efforts for a diplomatic solution including through the OIC platform,” said the ministry.
