A Senior Pakistani opposition politician Senator Azam Swati arrested for tweeting against army chief

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani authorities on Thursday arrested a senior politician and former federal minister Azam Khan Swati over his twitter post against the Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

 

Swati told reporters in court that he was arrested after his tweet last night.

 

He tweeted after a local court acquitted the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz in a high-profile Rs 16 billion money laundering case on Wednesday.

 

“Mr Bajwa congratulations to you and few with you. Your plan is really working and all criminals are getting free at cost of this country. With these thugs getting free, you have legitimised corruption. How you predict now the future of this country (sic),” Swati tweeted.

 

Sharif's acquittal brought countrywide criticism and people expressed displeasure to acquitted him in a mega-money laundering case.

Earlier the court was fixed date in April this year to indict Sharif and his son in the money laundering case, however, after becoming the Prime Minister now court acquitted him as the investigation agency said that they didn't find any proof against the premier involvement in mega money laundering. 

 

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Imran Khan strongly reacted over Swati arrest and said the country should not make a "bana repblic".
