Pakistan Premier Sharif holds Eid calls with global leaders, urges de-escalation in Iran crisis

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday held a series of telephone conversations with key international leaders to exchange Eid-ul-Fitr greetings and discuss rising tensions in the Middle East, emphasizing the need for urgent de-escalation.

 

Sharif spoke with Anwar Ibrahim, conveying warm greetings to the government and people of Malaysia. The two leaders discussed the evolving situation in Iran and the Gulf region, agreeing on the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace.

They also expressed satisfaction over growing bilateral ties.

 

In a separate call, Sharif spoke with Shavkat Mirziyoyev, exchanging Eid greetings and reaffirming commitments to strengthen relations between Pakistan and Uzbekistan. Both leaders welcomed the outcomes of Mirziyoyev’s recent visit to Pakistan and stressed continued engagement to build on recent progress, while also calling for de-escalation in the Middle East.

 

The Pakistani premier also spoke with Ilham Aliyev, extending Eid wishes and reiterating Pakistan’s solidarity with Azerbaijan. Sharif condemned recent attacks against Azerbaijan and emphasized the need to resolve tensions through peaceful means.

 

Across all engagements, leaders agreed on the urgency of reducing tensions and pursuing diplomatic solutions, while reaffirming commitments to strengthening bilateral cooperation.
