Pakistan premier Sharif meets with President Erdogan in Ashgabat.

ISLAMABAD- Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of the Republic of Türkiye, today on the sidelines of the International Forum dedicated to the International Year of Peace and Trust in Ashgabat.

During the warm and cordial meeting, both leaders reaffirmed the historic and deep fraternal bonds between Pakistan and Türkiye, emphasizing shared values and a common aspiration for peace and prosperity, according to statement, issued here from PM office in Islamabad.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the frequent leadership-level engagements between the two countries this year and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation across political, economic, energy, defence, and investment sectors. He welcomed the convening of the 16th session of the Pakistan-Türkiye Joint Ministerial Commission, aimed at ensuring the implementation of decisions from the 7th High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

Highlighting energy, petroleum, and minerals as priority areas, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif encouraged Turkish investments and called for timely execution of recently signed agreements. He also sought Türkiye’s expertise in the privatization of Pakistan’s distribution companies, with ministerial-level exchanges planned soon. The Prime Minister emphasized regional connectivity, particularly the revival of the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul rail network.

Both leaders exchanged views on regional and global developments. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated President Erdogan’s leadership and commitment to peace efforts in Gaza and thanked Türkiye for facilitating dialogue between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban, while stressing that peace must address Pakistan’s security concerns.

President Erdogan welcomed the Prime Minister’s remarks and expressed his determination to strengthen cooperation and build closer ties between the two nations.
