Pakistan Army strongly reacted former PM Imran Khan remarks

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army on Monday strongly reacted over former Prime Minister Imran’s statement regarding the appointment of new army chief in November and said army was aghast at Khan's defamatory remarks.

 

In a statement, issued by the Pakistan Army media wing, ISPR, said “Pakistan Army is aghast at the defamatory and uncalled for statement about the senior leadership of Pakistan Army by Chairman PTI during a political rally at Faisalabad. 

 

 

“Regrettably, an attempt has been made to discredit and undermine senior leadership of Pakistan Army at a time when the institution is laying lives for the security and safety of the people of Pakistan every day,” said ISPR.

 

The military added that senior politicians trying to stir controversies on the appointment of a new Chief of Army Staff while the procedure for which is well defined in the constitution, is most unfortunate and disappointing. 

 

“Senior leadership of Army has decades long impeccable meritorious service to prove its patriotic and professional credentials beyond any doubt. 

 

“Politicizing the senior leadership of Pakistan Army and scandalizing the process of selection of COAS is neither in the interest of the state of Pakistan nor of the institution. Pakistan Army reiterates its commitment to uphold the constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan,” said ISPR.

 

Khan on Sunday while addressing a massive gathering in Faisalabad, criticized the ruling alliance and said they are trying to appoint their favorite officer as chief of army staff to protect themself from any action as most of them are involved in corruption.

 

Khan said the most senior officer should appoint as the new army chief. 

 

Pakistan's current army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa will complete his tenure in November.
