Pakistan Condemns Israel’s Recognition of Somaliland, Reaffirms Support for Somalia

By The South Asia Times

NEW YORK: Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned Israel’s unilateral recognition of the “Somaliland” region of the Federal Republic of Somalia, describing it as a violation of international law and a direct assault on Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement was delivered by Ambassador Usman Jadoon, Acting Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, during a briefing of the UN Security Council.

Ambassador Jadoon emphasized that the Somaliland region remains an integral and inseparable part of Somalia, and no external actor has the legal or moral authority to alter that reality. He highlighted that Pakistan, along with a group of OIC countries, has unequivocally rejected Israel’s move, warning that it could destabilize the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea region, and international peace and security.

The envoy also praised Somalia’s recent progress under President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, noting advances in national reconciliation, constitutional reform, economic legislation, and preparations for inclusive elections. He stressed that these achievements must be safeguarded against actions that risk fragmentation or reverse hard-won gains.

Jadoon linked Israel’s recognition to broader concerns over Palestinian displacement, reaffirming Pakistan’s support for a sovereign, independent State of Palestine with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

He urged the UN Security Council and the international community to reject all actions undermining Somalia’s unity and pledged Pakistan’s continued support for Somalia’s march toward peace, stability, and prosperity.
