15 security personnel martyred, 12 terrorists killed after attack on joint vheck post in northwest Pakistan

ISLAMABAD -  At least 15 Pakistani security personnel and a government official were martyred after terrorists attacked a joint police-security forces check post in the northwestern Tank district overnight, the military said on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the assault took place during the night of July 23–24 when terrorists attempted to storm the joint check post.

The military said security personnel repelled the attack, killing 12 of the terrorists during the exchange of fire as they tried to flee.

The attackers later rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the check post, causing a powerful blast that severely damaged the facility.

The explosion killed 15 people, including 12 military personnel, two police officers, and one government official from the forest department, the statement said.

The military said the attack was carried out by  "Fitna Al Khwarij," a term Pakistani authorities use for the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and said the group was supported by India.

The ISPR said a clearance operation was underway to search the area for any remaining attackers.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in militant violence in recent years, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and neighboring Balochistan provinces, where security forces have conducted frequent counterterrorism operations under the government's "Azm-e-Istehkam" campaign.
